On August 25th, Ohio River Valley Pride Coalition had the pleasure of being one of the guest speakers, alongside GLSEN Greater Cincinnati, to speak at our sister organization Love Must Win's monthly Safe Haven meeting in Covington at the Children's Home of Northern Kentucky.
After playing an introductory game and a riveting discussion about ripples, in particular, the ripples of change we can create in the world through acts of kindness, GLSEN and Ohio River Valley Pride Coalition discussed the services they both provide to youth.
A main focal point for both organizations was on establishing GSTAs (gay-straight-trans alliances) in schools in the areas we serve. We were very proud to have Ivonna Snyder, one of the student leaders of a local GSTA, speak on behalf of our organization. We discussed our procedure to get GSTAs established, how we assist the students and faculty if necessary, and the benefits of having these resources available to LGBTQ+ youth.
We were honored to attend this event, and we look forward to working further with GLSEN and Love Must Win as sister organizations.
